Paintings rarely exist entirely on their own; they are almost always extensions of our previous experiences, unfolding like layers of a conversation over time. In my studio, my artwork regularly continues speaking long after the last brushstroke has dried.
My creative process often centers around the vibrant, life-giving hue of lemons during the summer season. They feel like pure sunshine to me. If you have been following my recent work, you might already know how the deep patterns of When Light Shines initially shifted into the quiet minimalism of Lemon Zest. But as those two pieces hung side-by-side on my studio wall, a new thought began to brew.
I started to imagine a middle ground—a way for the intricate, textured patterning of When Light Shines to find its home inside the quieter, more restful composition I had built for Lemon Zest. That singular spark became the foundation for Citrus and Sunshine.
For me, this latest canvas is a beautiful marriage of both worlds. It balances the playful rhythm of design with the simple beauty of everyday objects. It serves as a gentle reminder that life’s most fulfilling transitions happen when we let our past experiences layer together naturally, finding comfort and brightness along the way.
