Interior Rhythm Bowl 12″ x 16″ | Oil and Oil Pastel on Panel | $1120
This experimental still life marks a playful departure from my usual process, trading walnut oil for mineral spirits and building the composition through deep, deliberate layers. By stepping outside my typical technical routine, my brushstrokes took on a looser, freer rhythm—while my signature use of line remains a vital part of my visual languag
e. To further heighten the physical surface, I introduced raw bits of oil pastel, carving rich, tactile textures directly into the layers.
At the heart of the piece is a simple, familiar shape: a pink bowl handmade by my daughter during her high school years. I love working with objects that carry their own history, and this sentimental vessel felt like the perfect anchor for an exploration of form and memory. Surrounding it is a vibrant background pattern inspired by a forgotten swatch from a massive upholstery collection discarded by a designer.
There is a distinct whimsy to Interior Rhythm Bowl. A bowl is one of the simplest vessels we interact with, yet it holds so many hidden meanings—carrying stories, history, and a quiet sense of home.
