Peonies have to be one of my favorite flowers each season. My only wish is that they lasted longer, but then I would not have the same depth of appreciation for them. Inspiration for this oil painting stemmed from my want to savor experiences, and in this case it was the beauty of nature as well as time spent with a treasured friend.

This small bouquet was cut from my friends garden as we were leaving her home. She lovingly clipped the flowers, wrapping them in some damp paper towels for travel. The color and delight of them simply made me smile! Upon arriving home, I swiftly placed them in glass cup on my kitchen table to enjoy. The next day they had opened up a bit more and almost asked to be painted.

In creating the painting I incorporated some imaginative passes of color and interpreted the shapes with expressive strokes of the brush and simple line. This painting experience allowed me to dream a little bit bigger and aim toward sharing the more visceral experience of a moment where words would fall short.
