This oil painting is another adventure into exploring the figure or people as central to a painting. It’s a little side track that I am enjoying while still remaining connected to painting landscapes and still life’s.
The imagery here is inspired by a painting done by Matisse. I first came across the painting in a class and was given it to copy for practice. I haven’t been able to find an image of the original to get the title. What I worked from for this piece was the painting I did in class some years ago. This version veers off the original composition, with my imagination creating a slightly different background and changing other details. I think what I was always drawn to in the painting by Matisse was the beautiful form of the young woman and the gracefulness she seemed to carry. She does exude a sense of “Tender Beauty” to me.
Thank you for looking!
