Edges of Comfort – Oil on canvas – $475
Edges of Comfort explores pattern, contrast, and the quiet familiarity of everyday objects. A single bowl rests against shifting planes of color and floral patterning, where lavender, yellow, olive, and charcoal create a sense of warmth balanced with tension. I’ve been drawn lately to simplifying these compositions, allowing fewer objects and stronger color relationships to carry the emotional weight of the painting.
Over time, I’ve continued returning to bowls as subjects. They are humble, functional forms, yet they seem to hold an endless range of character and presence. I’m interested in the circular shape itself—the continuity of it, the sense of holding, of containment, of something without a fixed beginning or end. Working with darker passages around these forms has also changed how I experience color. The surrounding depth allows light and softness to become more vivid, more grounded within the space.
Though rooted in still life, these paintings often feel connected to interior experience for me—small moments of steadiness, reflection, and quiet resilience held within changing environments.
I’d love to know what draws you into this painting. Please share your thoughts in the comments.
