Floral Imprints was inspired by the artful terracotta vase and the bouquet of warmly colored flowers. I liked the organic influence of the terracotta in conjunction with the yellow daisies and red alstroemeria.
In working the painting I chose to emphasize the strong shapes and patterns of the entire visual space. The detail on the vase and in the flowers contrasted deeply with the beautiful diagonal lights and shadows within the background and foreground areas. The objects, shadows and reflections were considered with equal importance, creating a flattening effect and more graphic interpretation on the canvas. This is an important point of view for me as the artist and speaks to a feeling of connection between form and space as unified energies.
In the exploration of relationship between line, color, space and form I hope to engage the viewer in a new way. Articulating with common objects a sense of pattern or imprint that goes beyond the canvas.

Wow the detail in this one is outstanding, Catherine. I just love the “feel” of this one, feminine in nature, showing off all her beautiful details. Great painting job!! LOVE IT! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
