There’s a quiet beauty in the familiar streets we pass by every day. Small Town Corners is one of those places for me—an inviting storefront tucked into the rhythm of my daily walks. This particular corner has been a favorite subject among local artists, and I can see why. There’s something timeless about the way the light settles on the building, how the tree anchors the scene, and how the window display adds a touch of warmth and life.
As I painted, I found myself thinking about Edward Hopper’s work. While my palette leans toward vibrancy, there’s a stillness in this piece that reminds me of his quiet cityscapes and small-town views. The scene is filled with presence yet holds an air of solitude—perhaps because the shop, once a consignment store, now sits empty, waiting for new shopkeepers to bring it back to life. I’m grateful I captured it while it was still filled with treasures and stories from its past.
This painting is a moment in time, a glimpse into the ever-changing nature of small-town life. What comes next for this space, I don’t know—but for now, it remains a cherished corner, both in my town and in my work.
