Each summer I take time to capture at least one painting of my yellow Iris. I love watching them come in and how they start with such strong flat beautiful green foliage. Mine always show up leaning toward the sun so they arc toward the right.
Every time I paint these I am reminded of my friend who was moving and giving away a bundh of the iris bulbs she had planted in her garden. She showed up one morning with a trunk load in her car making them available to her friends. These flowers have really added so much to my garden. When I paint them I am reminded of her generosity, the gift of friends. I have some very generous people in my life who have helped me in so many ways when life was quite challenging.
Gardening is another way that I get to create and “re-plant”, give back to the earth. I have a habit of moving things around and transplanting the plants I have which is fun. I too like to pass on bulbs when mine have multiplied. I have shared these yellow Iris bulbs with neighbors over the years and I hope they just keep expanding! Right now I’m waiting for some Zinnia seeds to come into bloom. It’s been dry here so they don’t appear as hardy as other years, but I’m watering and remaining hopeful for some.
Here are a few other versions from previous years with these marvelous perennials!
These two artworks are also available. Click on the image for more information or reach out to me at the email listed below. Thank you!

Thank you Liza! I’m glad it inspires a hopeful feeling. That’s such a nice compliment.
I love how flowers are meaningful with memories of the friend who gave them to you long ago. I have a few of mom’s flowers in my small yard and they have been transplanted and moved with us. Your paintings allow you to enjoy the flowers year round. Have a great week ahead Catherine.
Thank you Louise! I appreciate hearing how you have flowers of your mothers and have moved them with you to continue to enjoy.
I hope you have a great week ahead too! Catherine
