This sunflower painting carries the joy of a late summer bouquet. It also conveys a sense of timeless rhythm in its arrangement. The flowers are gathered from a local farm during my town’s September festival. They bring with them the vibrancy of community. They also signify the turning of the season. The sunflowers are set in a familiar glass vase that has appeared in many of my works. They stand tall, with stems visible through the clear vessel. This grounds them in a quiet structure. Their golden petals reach outward with energy.
There’s a Van Gogh–esque spirit in the way these blooms pulse with life. They echo his famous connection to sunflowers. Yet, they find their own expression through bold outlines, layered color, and an unexpected harmony. A patch of soft salmon warms the surface. It is an almost musical interruption. The golds of both background and blossoms hum with a shared glow. This balance of order and surprise is evident. Grid-like blocks meet organic shapes. This combination creates a painting that feels rooted in tradition. Yet, it remains fresh with its own vitality.
