Belgrade Lakes Painting: A Summer Escape

“Belgrade Lakes” Acrylic on paper – 4.25″ x 7.25″- $85 Contact

The feeling of summer and being on a lake, to me is like a grand escape. It is something special that I never want to forget. Can you relate? This scene is from Belgrade Lakes Maine. I’m not sure what pond – maybe Great Pond (which is really a lake). This is a place I’ve visited many times and have fond memories around. I have 100’s of photos from my visits. I could have painted from them. However, I chose to be in that box of postcards I have.

This is a quintessential vista that just speaks Maine to me in so many ways. It’s not the lobster traps and ocean. (Those are beautiful too!) It’s a moment on one of the many lakes. They are part of the rich, scenic landscape here to enjoy. In this scene, the boats resting on the dock and the reflections on the water create a visual experience. The warm yellows and oranges on the trees suggest a change of seasons. They also hold space for the beauty of summer.

My paint brush traveled back in time while painting. It anchored itself to my many memories. The smell of pine trees and the sound of the loons I remember like it was yesterday. This is engraved in my soul of experiences. The painting hopes to bring to life the sensation of these offerings and connect us to a simpler way of being. In the quiet of a forest and the stillness of an untouched pond feels so much like “home”.

This acrylic sketch is 4.25″ x 7″ and was painted on 100 lb. bristol paper and comes direct from my sketchbook. It is ready for framing. The price includes shipping.
