“Bubbling Joy”

“Bubbling Joy” 16″ x 20″ – Oil on panel – $1200

This painting was a potluck experience. I started with the basket. It’s one I have that reminds me of Easter egg hunts with my daughter when she was young. Those memories are fond ones that bring to life the wonder of childhood.

In all honesty I wasn’t sure what else to add so I grabbed a plant, an empty bottle and some fruit. Sort of basics when it comes to a still life arrangement. To make it a little different I added colored paper on the table and some paper with a circular print on my wall. I had my fellow artist friend coming over so I needed to come up with something!!!!

As it turned out, the painting has a personality. I think there is a lovely sense of space and whimsical feel. I was going to remove the circular motif in the background but my friend suggested not doing that. I realize the motif added something interesting to the artwork and contributed to a connection with the shapes of the fruit in a fun and unexpected way.

The title is sort of random, but inspired by the finished painting and the strong circular patterning as well as the transparency of glass. The two together reminded me of blowing bubbles and watching them float in the air. That connection was enough to engage me in titling it “Bubbling Joy”.

This painting was created on a masonite panel in oils and is a signed original. If you have any questions or wish to purchase this painting, contact me at cmartzloffart@gmail.com. * Note the frame is for suggestion only.
