“Hearty Vegetable Mosaic II”

“Hearty Vegetable Mosaic II” 24″ x 24″ oil on masonite – $2175

If I had to pick a room in my house that influences me and my painting of still life’s it would be my kitchen. Kitchens are centers for creativity. The things one can make in a kitchen are endless. That feels big to me! Not all of us love cooking or even have to in order to create in a kitchen. Heck I’ve made paper and soap from scratch in mine.

When it came to the inspiration for this large still life oil painting I decided to work from a 12″x12″ version of the same imagery and enlarge it. I wanted to really feel the shapes, the colors and robust nature of the colander full of tomatoes with the single green pepper and the beautiful patterning around them. I think I wanted the painting to say “hello” in a way that couldn’t be missed. And as beautiful as the smaller version is – I like this one more! It’s a happy painting with a flavorful, simplistic style. The square format and grand scale bring a little something different to the idea of a “still life” and I know this would be awesome in a kitchen! There is a delightful graphic quality to the painting too that reminds me of the artwork found on vintage can labels, of which I have a small collection.

It’s back to the easel now and seeing what else transpires from my “kitchen”.

This painting was created on a masonite panel in oils and is a signed original. If you have any questions or wish to purchase this painting, contact me at cmartzloffart@gmail.com. Thank you!
