Hearty Vegetable Mosaic II 24″ x 24″ Oil on masonite – $3350
If I had to pick a room in my house that influences me and my painting of still life’s it would be my kitchen. Kitchens are centers for creativity. The things one can make in a kitchen are endless. That feels big to me! Not all of us love cooking or even have to in order to create in a kitchen. Heck I’ve made paper and soap from scratch in mine.
I sought inspiration for this large still life oil painting. I chose to work from a 12″x12″ version of the same imagery. I then decided to enlarge it. I wanted to truly experience the shapes and the colors. I appreciated the robust nature of the colander full of tomatoes. I noticed the single green pepper and the beautiful patterning around them. I think I wanted the painting to say “hello” in a way that couldn’t be missed. And as beautiful as the smaller version is – I like this one more! It’s a happy painting with a flavorful, simplistic style. The square format and grand scale provide a fresh perspective on the idea of a “still life.” I believe this would be awesome in a kitchen! There is a delightful graphic quality to the painting. It reminds me of the artwork found on vintage can labels. I have a small collection of these labels.
It’s back to the easel now and seeing what else transpires from my “kitchen”.
This painting was created on a masonite panel in oils and is a signed original. If you have any questions or wish to purchase this painting, contact me at cmartzloffart@gmail.com. Thank you!

I LOVE the composition and colors, Catherine! I too create in my kitchen and my eating room next to the kitchen. I’m learning to paint in watercolors and I’m having so much fun. You inspire me!! Thank you so much!!! xoxo
That’s so fun to hear! I’m not alone in my fascination with the kitchen. The kitchen is a creative space.
