I just love some of the trails near my home. It’s especially nice to record them as the seasons change. To catch this trail in the early spring is the best! The vegetation is starting to fill out and the coziness of being embraced by that growth is tangible. The trail is quite narrow and can be dense so the element of surprise as you continue on is frequent. The burst of white wildflowers here is just one example of this type of experience.
In the sketch I hoped to capture that sense of surprise. The element of not knowing what’s “around the corner” or having “arrived” at a place that takes your breath away. Incorporating brushwork with a swiftness to it helped me show this energy. I loved the white wildflowers against the fresh greens of spring. For me, they were like sign’s of hope which spring often inspires as we witness new growth emerge after winter. My interpretation of the shadows came in the form of beautiful violet and turquoise hues. These hues met up with the warm browns of the dirt trail.
What I love about painting and having artwork in my own home is the way it creates interest in a room. Depending upon the piece, it allows me to treasure some of my life experiences.
The sketch itself is 6.25″ x 4.25″ and was painted on 100 lb. bristol paper and can be framed. The price includes shipping.
