A Victorian Spring 8″ x 10″ Oil on canvas – $475
There’s a moment in early spring when everything gathers quietly—color returning, edges softening, growth pressing gently forward. On a recent walk through my town, I was drawn to a familiar porch surrounded by gardens just beginning to open. The flowers were robust and full, like a white, welcoming embrace, carrying a gentle sense of nostalgia, as if stepping into a story already unfolding.
In painting this scene, I worked intuitively with bristle brushes, allowing the underpainting to show through in places, letting the warmth and depth beneath guide the layers above. The porch holds a quiet stillness, while the garden around it bursts with movement and life, echoing the season’s gentle awakening.
If this piece resonates with you, I’d love to hear what you notice in the gardens or spring moments around you. Perhaps a scent, a color, or a small gesture of the season that catches your attention—share it in the comments below.
Enjoy, Catherine
