The Way Sunflowers Lean – 20″ x 16″ Oil on canvas – $1200
Some flowers stand upright with unfailing confidence. Sunflowers, especially at the peak of summer, have a way of leaning into the world. They fold toward light, toward one another, toward the moment they’re given. In this painting, I gathered market sunflowers and a few garden zinnias. I placed them into a tall glass vase. Then, I brought them outside to bask in the late-season air. The wrought-iron chair and shifting landscape behind them transformed into shapes of color. It became an atmosphere more than a place. It was a mood more than a setting.
What draws me most is the gesture of the flowers themselves. Their soft droop and honest weight captivate me. Their quiet poetry is enchanting. The glowing orange tabletop and cool blue sky enhance the sense of presence. They create a fleeting moment held still just long enough to notice. I hope this piece invites you to pause. Feel the warmth of the day. Remember the beauty in the ways we lean — toward each other, toward sunlight, toward the stories we’re still unfolding.
