Tiger Lilies Trio – 10″ x 8″ Oil on canvas – SOLD
Each year, I feel a quiet pull to paint the tiger lilies. They arrive in a burst of late-summer cheer—short-lived, a little wild, and bursting with orange optimism. I noticed this year’s bloom was already fading when I made time to paint them. There was a sense of obligation, yes, but also something tender—like honoring a tradition. My piece from last year found a home. I suppose I wanted to hold onto the ritual a little longer.
This painting came together quickly. It was one of those sessions where I trusted the gesture. I let the brush move without too much second-guessing. The setup was simple: a trio of blooms gathered in a bottle, warm light drifting across the table. I enjoy the shapes of these lilies—the curves, twists, and open petals. They practically paint themselves in a bold palette. That orange is such a joyful color. Just when the spring blooms fade, these show up with their own energy. A little unruly. A little celebratory.

This is the second painting in a new body of floral work I’ve been quietly building—more to come soon.

If this piece resonates with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to leave a comment or share it with someone who will enjoy a little color and cheer today. Catherine
