In The Chromatic Table, I leaned into the energy of bold shapes and saturated color to build this layered composition. The pitcher, bowl, and bottle are recurring objects I’ve used across my work. They are like familiar characters that reappear in a new scene. The background, however, holds a story of its own. It draws from an earlier acrylic painting I created. ( see below)
This painting was developed from a blind contour drawing. I often share this intuitive exercise in workshops. I turned that original piece upside down. It re-emerged in this painting. This allows the abstraction to support and contrast the more recognizable still life forms.

Working in a square format has become part of my rhythm lately. This is especially true within this series of 10 x 10 paintings. There’s a quiet repetition unfolding across the collection. Objects reappear. Color palettes echo one another. Past and present layers build upon each other. It’s both a playful and reflective process.
This piece still hums with the rhythm of late summer light.
