Sunlit Zinnias invites you into a world of radiant color and the quiet joy of a room touched by nature. This 20″ x 16″ oil painting centers around a vintage glass canning jar—humble, familiar, and full of meaning—cradling a fresh bouquet of zinnias gathered from the garden. The blooms spill outward, leaves trailing gently, as if leaning into the light.
Behind the bouquet, soft geometric shapes hint at windows or walls, forming a quiet backdrop that glows with pale pastels and soft edges—like morning light filtering through a lived-in space. The composition offers a balance between liveliness and calm, capturing the rhythm of home and season.
The palette is full of warmth: vibrant magentas, oranges, yellows, and reds meet creamy neutrals, delicate blues, and whispering pinks and violets. These tones mingle like sunlight on a summer table, creating a space that feels tender and full of life.
Flowers often find their way into my work, not only for their beauty but for the wonder they bring into the everyday. Vintage canning jars, with their soft curves and history, speak to a slower, more rooted way of living—something I often aim to express in paint.
