The Pineapple – A Memory of Welcome
This painting brings me back to a time when I managed a gourmet kitchen store — a place where I first learned that pineapples symbolized hospitality, warmth, and welcome. Painting this piece connected me to that symbolism in a deeply personal way. The rich texture of the pineapple’s diamond-patterned skin and its glowing, warm tones offered something both grounding and joyful to work with.
As I painted, memories of “home” crept in — not just the physical place, but the feeling of it. That sense is echoed in the floral fabric that frames the composition. Fabric always reminds me of my mother, who sewed constantly. I still picture her at her machine, fully absorbed in her own rhythm of making. The cobalt blue bowl of citrus, the tiny vase of early daffodils… they carry their own small stories too. The daffodils especially — they bloom for only a brief time, just as spring begins to take hold. I remember them growing in our yard in Westfield.
Painted in 2023, this piece still hums with the rhythm of late summer light.
It is currently available. If it resonates with you, I’d love to share more details.
