Exploring Velvet and Copper: A Colorful Artistic Journey

Velvet and Copper – 14″ x 11 Oil on canvas – $575

Velvet and Copper

This painting was an absolute joy to create, and it gave me a chance to experiment with a rich and saturated color palette. Working with such deep tones can be challenging, but there’s a certain alchemy that happens when they come together. In Velvet and Copper, I was drawn to the interplay between the warm copper kettle, the glowing reds of the apples, and the cool, deep green of the wine bottle.

The process of refining this piece was just as rewarding as its initial creation. I enlisted the insight of fellow artists to refine details, such as adjusting the bottle’s shadow and simplifying some shapes to bring more clarity and balance. That type of collaboration feels powerful and supportive. It’s a wonderful reminder that art brings people together and evolves with feedback, patience, and persistence.

As we transition into the winter season, I feel there’s something evocative about the richness of these colors. They remind me of the warmth we seek in the colder months—the golden glow of candlelight, the cozy embrace of a blanket made with deep-hued yarns or fabrics, and the way vibrant fruits brighten our tables. I encountered an invitation to savor the season’s warmth and richness in creating this painting.
