Zinnia’s symbolize friendship and endurance. A few years ago, one of my sisters gave me a packet of zinnia seeds for my garden. Since then I’ve planted zinnias seeds in my garden each summer and enjoyed the anticipation of their vibrant color. This experience inspired a feeling of hope and wonder that I remember from childhood and the magic of being in nature.
This year, the fruit’s of my garden have not been as abundant. It’s been really dry and I’ve had more hungry rabbits eating my plants. : ) Fortunately, I have friends who’s gardens were more robust.
This lovely bouquet came my way via one of my friends. Placed in a simple canning jar the blooms come alive with a simplicity and texture that remind me of a vintage country garden.
The sketch was created in acrylics on 100lb Bristol paper. Working swiftly to catch the immediacy of the moment the painting has lots of energetic brush strokes with layers of color.
The painting itself is 6.75″ x 4″ there is a small border around the artwork like you see here. This comes directly from my sketchbook and can be matted and framed.
Here’s an image from the set up I was working from in my studio. The arrangement also became the subject for a small oil painting which you can see “Vibrant Summer Afternoon”.
