“Spring Abstractions II”

“Spring Abstractions II” 20″ x16″ Oil on canvas – $1200

“Spring Abstractions II” is a painting that was inspired by my neighbors cherry tree. This version was created in response to having an interest in seeing it larger. I welcomed that idea and had fun revisiting this moment.

The view is an interpretation from the front of my yard over into my neighbors and across the street. In creating the painting I removed the road and joined the landscape into a unified scene with references to the direction and angle of the road but I turned them into simple shifts in color in the terrain.

I’ve always love this view. Like clockwork, each year, I get to witness that tree coming into bloom. I know that it doesn’t last long once its reached it peak so painting it has been a way to “save” this experience. The pink is so vibrant and looks amazing surrounded by the yellow azalea’s. I’ve incorporated versions of this tree into several other spring landscapes over the past couple of years because it’s just been so beautiful to embrace.

Unfortunately, this past week my neighbors decided to remove the tree from the front of their yard. I can’t say I didn’t feel anything about this but what stuck out was the time I have had to paint it. That’s one of the wonderful things about a painting and paintings. An artwork can offer an opportunity to revisit an experience in time without ending.

This painting was created on a gallery wrapped canvas in oils and is a signed original. If you have any questions or wish to purchase this painting, contact me at cmartzloffart@gmail.com. * Note the frame is for suggestion only. Thank you!Catherine
