“A Spree of Delight”

“A Spree of Delight” 12″ x 9″ – Oil on panel – $350

Still life painting continues to fill my heart with joy. This festive piece was painted during a workshop I presented in November. I painted two paintings at the same time to demonstrate the differences between painting on a toned canvas and a white canvas.

The audience was engaged as the process unfolded. I came with a more complex arrangement in terms of the amount patterning and variety of colors, hoping to keep it interesting. One of the things that occurs when you are painting on a grounded surface is that the negative space has more presence. I like that.

The painting at the top is the one that was created with a toned ground. I modified colors as I went along to suit the overall composition and arrangement. I did the same in the one painted on the white ground. I wasn’t able to complete both the paintings in the 2 hours I had so I took them home to finish.

Now that they are complete the final paintings will be shown to the group this month. They were very interested in seeing the final outcomes. As was I!
