One of the many pleasures of painting outdoors is the experience of being in nature. There’s a wonderful synergy that unfolds when the two come together. With that said, I also happen to love historic architecture. The craftsmanship, artistry and detail often amaze me, filling me with gratitude for the creative spirits who embrace the work involved in preserving the character of a house and it’s history. When all three of these unite in an experience around painting, it can be quite magical.
This small plein-air oil painting captures such a connection. The beauty of design and the magic of color that are part of a creative alliance felt rooted here and became part of this artworks expression. The painting was created in June during the annual garden tour in historic Bordentown, NJ. This house and it’s garden were spectacular. I walked around for awhile taking it all in. A flavor of New Orleans was clear and the richness, texture and atmosphere of the surrounding gardens filled me with that magical sense of wonder where dreams become possibilities.
I hope you enjoy the painting!

We visited New Orleans a few years ago and I love those historic buildings, too. Such detail. Such craftsmanship. And such pride in the beautiful work they were creating. You’ve captured it well in your painting 🙂
Thanks so much! Maybe I will get to visit there at some point. It does look so beautiful.
