This still life is a recent commission painting that I really enjoyed working on. It’s going to a collector in Belgium and was inspired by an earlier still life that sold a while back.
The painting celebrates the beauty of color and form. In the process of painting it I was taken with the idea of the background and reflective shadows taking on more presence within the composition. Creating them as distinctive forms with equal value and intensity. It’s a theme that does persist throughout my work in varied degrees and reflects my own inner investigation into the shadow parts of my history that I have stopped unconsciously “running” from. Accepting shadows can add beauty to the context of a life journey and alter the present course in a positive way. That’s my experience.
I hope you enjoy the painting!
