“4 East Chestnut” 8″x 10″ Oil on panel – SOLD
Last month I had an opportunity to join in a plein air event in the beautiful historic town of Bordentown, New Jersey. The event coincided with a garden tour, and as such the artists had the opportunity to paint on some very lovely grounds in the community.
As it turned out the weather couldn’t have been more perfect! Upon entering the small town it was easy to immediately feel the charm and character. As I was driving to my location I anxiously awaited seeing where I was going to be! I had heard it was going to be spectacular. Walking up to the driveway my eyes started to revel in the setting of this amazing historic home and the beautiful landscape around it. Shortly after, I was taken on a lovely tour by one of the homeowners and felt the love and joy they took in the property. It was a treasure trove of inspiration and creative spirit.
It took me awhile to find a spot to paint as there were so many interesting vistas to choose from. What I ended up being drawn to was the home itself and focusing on that with the landscape as an accent. The painting took awhile to get off the ground as I wiped things out several times before I saw something emerge that felt right. With a whimsical flair and bit of abstraction the painting slowly came to fruition. It was nice to take a few breaks and enjoy the grounds and awesome treats the homeowners had prepared. There were a lot of people throughout the morning and afternoon walking through marveling at all the flowers and plants.
I had a lot of fun and had some gracious hosts – I hope to participate again.
