“The Fantasy Garden”

Plein Air Colorful Landscape Oil Painting

“The Fantasy Garden” 10″x 8″ Oil on canvas – SOLD

I can’t say that I’ve been a huge fan of “fantasy” stories or even art but in looking at this oil painting and considering a title for it the word “fantasy” came to mind. The colors seem magical to me and as I reflect back on my experience at the garden arboretum there was a majestic quality.

Setting up beside the pond and lush spring vegetation I felt surrounded by a profound stillness. Sweet sounds of water from the fountain circulated around me as the warm sun tickled my skin. A few geese and a lone snake could be seen in the water.  I can’t say that I relished sighting the snake – I’m not a fan! None the less it was all part of the experience on this day.

What drew me to this perspective were the trees. Their long skinny trunks and delicate clusters of leaves in  brilliant and subdued greens extending outward and toward the sky were captivating.  In the distance the view of more formal gardens posed many questions to my artist eye – ultimately I chose to abstract them. The hints of Iris in yellow and violet proved to be lovely accents among their tall green “stalks”.  A wealth of shadows surrounding well place rocks in the foreground added some bold texture within this small landscape; inviting me to take a break and sit for a while, ponder life and absorb it’s intrinsic beauty.

Enjoy and please share the joy!
