The fascinating landscape of Maine is a painters paradise. There are so many opportunities around the state to experience the inspiration and intimacy of being in nature. I have found it to be a magical place where I can find a stillness and connection.
I did a lot of hiking while I was there, exploring the various trails around Mount Desert Island and this painting was completed from another photograph of mine from one of those hikes. What drew me to this vista were the trees and the sculptural quality of those in particular that were dead but alive in what they added in terms of visual interest to the landscape.
The beautiful blue water and warm hues emerging from the rocks made an exciting palette of colors to work with. Of course as a colorist they are exaggerated in this small painting in comparison to my photograph, but only as an expression of the profound beauty I had the opportunity to encounter.

Beautiful!
Stunning painting. Thank you for following BrewNSpew.
You caught the spirit of Maine in this wonderful painting. We spent many a summer up in Acadia National hiking all the trails – you brought back very special memories.
