“The Valley Meadow” 8″x 10″ oil on canvas
This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit St. Michaels Farm Preserve in Hopewell, NJ. This 20 acre parcel of land was once home to an orphanage for over 400 children. Today the space is a park like setting orchestrated in a way that allows visitors to contemplate nature and be a place of healing and reflection.
As I walked part of the grounds I could feel the healing nature around me. This vista is one that I have visited before but not painted from this perspective. There was a gentle sloping of the meadow and a beautiful series of colors and shapes leading into the horizon.
Behind me were large rolls of hay and wild raspberry bushes which I couldn’t resist picking from! It was a wonderful morning to be present and observing. I enjoyed each moment as I stood there with my easel and listened while painting.
