There’s a lot to explore within the context of a still life. As I suspect there is in a sonata. And sometimes I can feel at a loss with what to pull together to create a composition that’s fresh and new. So I just have to begin with something.
For this small painting I ended up incorporating a few traditional family heirlooms with some more common elements like apples and lemons. My hope was to bring a more contemporary feeling to the arrangement on canvas.
As it turned out I think there is a combination of both contemporary and traditional influences. The teapot ended up being more of a focal than I intended but if there’s one thing I can count on, its that surprises emerge in all my work.
If I knew how everything was going to turn out all the time, I don’t suspect I’d have as much fun!

The whole point in what all of artists do is to have FUN. If that element ever vanishes hang it up. LOVE this, Catherine! ❤
Thank you Amy! I agree with you…and sometimes I have to walk away for a bit so that it remains fun.
Ditto. Me too. It’s finally snowing here and I have not picked my “baby” up in a while. So starting tomorrow I will. 🙂
