Trees are an amazing thing to observe, in my opinion. I learn a lot just from watching them.  There are so many aspects to notice from the leaf shapes to the color and bend of the branches.  Even how they sway with the wind can vary.  Sometimes they have the ability to orchestrate themselves among each other in a beautiful dance of light and color that reminds me of Mother Natures organic artistry.

In this painting I hoped to capture some of that. It’s what I experienced while at the Watershed Foundation in Hopewell, NJ.  My walk to find a location took me through a path where I was surrounded by trees and grasses.  Many of the wildflowers were past their time. I recalled a few weeks earlier painting the yellow cone flowers which on this visit were no where to be found.

So while a full frontal view of trees can feel like a challenge to me this grouping offered some interest to my eye.  I liked the “invite” into the deeper darker  part of the woods which anchored itself in between hints of gold and orange leaves.  The foreground maintained some signs of the passing summer with more vibrant yellow petals scattered about and I just decided to give this a try.
