Finding sanctuary in the cool shade of trees, by a quiet pond on this humid afternoon was just what I needed.
Attending the peaceful location with my back back and gear I set myself up to paint toward the end of the day. There was a slight breeze and the sound of frogs and nature all around me. Oh how the time passed. Feeling almost non-existent. Reflections spoke loudly as I interpreted this experience.
This plein air painting was completed at The Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ. I’ve been here once before in the fall a few years back. Such beautiful grounds to calm the minds of brilliance that inhabit this campus.
The light moved quickly and I’m not sure I really captured it, but that’s ok. I believe that the spirit of what I was experiencing did make itself to the canvas and I look forward to visiting this spot again!

Wow Catherine the light and depth in this painting is fantastic – wonderful atmosphere captured here. Beautiful plein air work.
