“Outside the Playhouse” 5″ x 7″ oil on canvas SOLD
Last week I went to New Hope, Pennsylvania to do a little plein air painting. In part, this was preparation for a plein air painting event I’m participating in at the end of July at this location. I planned on doing a few small paintings which worked out well on this day.
Downtown New Hope is historic and a very “artsy”environment. It’s rich with interesting shops and restaurants. Side streets with galleries and more fun stuff to see and visit. The Main Street runs along the Delaware river so you can imagine some of the scenery. On this day, I parked near the Bucks County Playhouse and meandered around there finding a few spots to paint with some shade.
The painting here takes the viewer out toward Main Street with the river and playhouse behind. I loved the charm of the buildings and sidewalk. It had the flavor of a European village. Everything from the lamp post to the hanging sign and foliage added to the charm and character of this moment. It was also pretty quiet which is a deep contrast to what one experiences on the weekend when this is a very popular location for people to visit and enjoy.

This is such a beautiful street scene – I love how you captured the feeling of this small quaint town.
