“Bathroom Reflections” 18″x 14″ oil on canvas – $650
Moving through the interior spaces of my home I decided to capture part of one of my bathroom spaces. It’s something I see everyday and have often found it an interesting composition. What I didn’t know was how to tackle painting it because this bathroom is very small. I thought of standing with my easel in the the tub but ended up needing to have the easel straddle the tub to get the view. I had stuff resting on the toilet and by the sink which all worked quite well. Although it was a little tricky navigating around these things when I needed to take a break.
One of the things I’m learning about myself is how painting from actual subjects vs. a photograph is very important to my process. It’s not that working from a photograph is wrong but there’s something missing in that experience for me. Perhaps there’s something contained in the physical navigation of my equipment in order to be with a subject that also becomes part of the painting and story.
