“Across the Lake” 8″x 10″ oil on panel SOLD
Painting on overcast and cloudy days doesn’t always feel that inspiring. But as I’ve heard from fellow friends sometimes plein air painting is simply about “painting the day”.
This oil painting was done last week in Hightstown, NJ near the downtown center. They have a lovely small lake and I’ve always been attracted to the collection of homes and building across the way.
What can be deceiving about a cloudy day is the abundance of “grey”. At first glance it can appear as though there’s no color to work with. One of the things I like to do is seek out the color because it’s there! It often takes a little more observation and some imagination to really “pull” it out in the composition. This is what I hoped to have achieved in this painting.

Beautiful Fall scene – love the color you found, because it is soaring through your painting. Wonderful!
Thanks Mary! I really appreciate hearing that.
This is stunning! I wish I could paint like this, I really do, but alas, my hands just don’t have the patience to do it. I LOVE the way you pulled the color out of grey!! Great job!!! ❤
Thank you Amy! It is amazing to me the colors that can be hidden among the “grey”.
