There’s quite a bit of history in and around the state of New Jersey. This scene is one I have painted before and is located in Kingston, NJ near the Delaware Raritan Canal. The stone architecture captured in this painting supports an historic wood bridge that leads to an old mill. This is only visible if you trek down into the woods. It’s a rocky walk but amazingly beautiful.
This was worked over two visits with some follow-up work in my studio. The first day out was somewhat overcast so I was working with a lot of muted hues. I went back on a day when there was a bit more light to bring up the beauty of the stone and reflections.
