This painting began as a small study on 2 5″x 7″ panels that I taped together. As that piece came to completion I decided to paint it in a larger scale and used a 12″x 24″ canvas.
I’m someone who relates to tradition but also has an interest in contemporary or the unusual. In this arrangement I felt like I was able to explore a bit of both. The teapot is rather unfitting for the surrounding “traditional” things that are accompanying it. In many ways the journey in painting this larger still life represented a life statement about past and present connection and how on many levels there is no separation between the two.
